Getting with the Program

Thomas Edison Center’s journey from the beginning to the now

1978

Thomas Edison Center (TEC) opened its doors

Thomas Edison Center (TEC) opened its doors in 1978 as a nonprofit organization and began providing services. At that time, sheltered workshops were staffed by County Board employees and structured as non-profit organizations.

2008

Thomas Edison Center separates from the Van Wert County Board of Developmental Disabilities

The separation of Thomas Edison from the Van Wert County Board of Developmental Disabilities started in 2008. From that point, all new staff were hired as employees of Thomas Edison.

2015

All County Board staff converted to Thomas Edison Center Staff

This process continued with the conversion of all County Board staff to TEC staff on July 1, 2015. TEC was formed and started providing the following Medicaid waiver services: Adult Day Services (ADS), Vocational Habilitation Services (VH), and Non Medical Transportation (NMT).

2022 - Present

Thomas Edison Center becomes a Private Agency Provider

In 2022, we needed to take a close look at the evolving industry, product, service, marketing, and financial trends to build upon and grow.

Changes were happening all around us!

We wanted to move forward and get with the program, and continue to provide top quality services, so we applied for the Building Innovative Service Strategies Grant in hopes of moving forward with direction and guidance to help us be the best we could be as an agency.

Our history of being a local quality service provider is fundamental to our forward movement.
